Sweet Caroline: A Giveaway Bonanza
May 29th, 2008 by FiddledeedeeMy mother grew up in a small Texas town, Mineral Wells, Texas. Nearly all of her family lived and died there. And a large family it was. Her mother had 18 siblings, and her father boasted of 13 brothers and sisters. In fact, she loved to say that she had to travel all the way to Weatherford to date, because she was related to everyone in town. I happen to know for a fact, that since the residents of Mineral Wells knew all the other resident’s business, traveling to Weatherford to kick up her heels had little to nothing to do with a fear of dating her cousin’s cousin.
Just sayin’.
I often wonder what my life would have been like had we stayed in Mineral Wells. I long for that small town feel. And yet, I have a strong suspicion that a small town could never have held me.
Recently, I received a copy of Rachel Hauck’s Sweet Caroline. I immediately fell in love with the small town that Rachel’s heroine, Caroline, calls home. The characters are vivid, and the story makes for a wonderful summertime read.
About the book: Caroline Sweeney has always done the right thing–the responsible, dependable thing–unlike her mother who abandoned her family. But when her best friend challenges her to accept an exciting job adventure in Barcelona, Spain, Caroline says “yes” to destiny.
Then, without warning, ownership of the run-down cafe where she’s been waitressing falls right into Caroline’s lap. While she’s trying to determine the cafe’s future, handsome Deputy Sheriff J.D. Rand captures Caroline’s heart.
But when her first love, Mitch O’Neal, comes back to town, fresh from the heat of his newly-found fame as a country music singer in Nashville, Caroline must make some hard choices about love and the pursuit of the sweet life.
The author, Rachel Hauck, is offering a Sweet Life Giveaway of a Scrumptious Baking Basket, that contains a Super Cool Apron, a Low country cook book signed by PAT CONROY, rolling pin, and a pie plate! All you have to do to enter is sign up for Rachel’s newsletter here.
Also, I’m giving away a copy of Rachel’s novel, Sweet Caroline, to a lucky reader. Just leave a comment on this post by Friday, May 30th at 6:00 est, and I’ll have Mr. Random Number Generator pick a number.
If you simply can’t wait, you can purchase the book here. And for more information on Rachel, go visit her website.
Happy reading!

I love to read!!!! It’s a great escape for a SAH homeschooling mom! Especially when two lovely children seem to think they need to be attached to my hip all day. By the time they are duct taped to the bed…oops, I mean “put” to bed each night…a good read is a great escape!
