And Nothing To Trip Over

August 22nd, 2007 by Fiddledeedee

I want you to meet my new best friend. Her name is Shark and she’s a 3 speed electronic CORDLESS sweeper. She cleans the spilled coffee grounds off of my ugly linoleum, and the hundreds of Cheerios that are thrown down on the cheap carpet by an angry toddler on a consistent basis.

Did I mention she was CORDLESS?

That would be my favorite feature. Oh sure, I could drag “Jaws” out of the coat closet every time my floors get crunchy. And then I could pry the child proof5390414202811pjpg.jpg electrical outlet covers out of the wall breaking my last good fingernail when in reality the only family member who is able to deftly remove said cover is the toddler himself. But really. Why? And since my floors get crunchy on an hourly basis, I can just reach into my pantry and put “Shark” to good use. She takes up no more room than a broom.

And yes, I could use a broom and dust pan, but that would involve, you know, bending over. And attempting to wrangle the broom with one hand while utilizing the dust pan with the other. And besides, a broom and dustpan is so 80’s. I’m a modern woman, people. Even if I do think the 8-track tape will still make a comeback.

wfmwheader.jpgAnd now with my “Shark”, I need never bend over again. Except if I drop an Oreo on the floor. Five second rule, you know. With my new cordless sweeper, I only need to push a button to empty the floor dirt and stray Polly Pocket shoes into the waiting trash.

And where did I find such a treasure? At Bed, Bath, and Beyond. And I used my 20% off coupon.

And that my friends, works for me. For more Works For Me Wednesday tips, head over to Rocks In My Dryer.

Updated To Add:  I’m getting lots of questions regarding how well it picks stuff up.  YES, it will suck up petrified food from the floor, and even works on the carpet.  I still have to use “Jaws” for a once a week deep clean.  Oh, who am I kidding.  I’m lucky if “Jaws” makes an appearance every two weeks.  But the “Shark” does wonderful pick up work for me.   Now, if I could only get it to cook dinner…..

Oh, Oh, Oh! I want one!!!

  2. Laurie in TN Says:

I’ll have to get one of those! And I have a coupon, too! Thanks for the tip!

  3. chocolatechic Says:

    oooOOOOooooooo

A no bending over appliance! Love that!!!

But seeing as how I have my slav….errr kiddos do the floors, I won’t need to get one of those for 4 more years.

  4. Farmers Wife Says:

Dude. I just bought a cordless sweeper. Weird.

I have just discovered that I have no clue what went on pre-sweeper. How did I keep my floors clean?? They are a haven for crackers, meal debris, raisins and dust…oh the dust.

But now…clean…dare I say sparkling. And it’s rechargeable….ahhhh, I believe we have stumbled upon the prize winning invention of the century.

    Sweep on girls. Sweep on.

  5. Jessie Says:

    What a great tip! Thanks!

  6. JenLo Says:

LOVE that! Mine is actually a Swiffer Vac, but same principle and it saved my feet from eternal crunchiness….well, that and the dog, but she doesn’t like coffee grounds.

  7. LeAnne Says:

Oh, I need one! I also need a coupon. Can I get a coupon online or did it come in the mail and I missed it? Gotta find one!

  8. Liz Says:

*gasp* you throw away polly pocket shoes? in the GARBAGE???

  9. fiddledeedee Says:

    Liz,
Oh yes ma’am I do. Otherwise, I’ll be finding them in Jensen’s poop.

    ‘Nuff said. :)

And I find these coupons in the Sunday paper, or in the mail. I believe they accept “other mfg.” coupons as well. Check online also, sometimes a store will offer a coupon to download.

  10. kittyhox Says:

I’m so glad you posted about this thing! I’ve been wanting something cordless for in-between visits from “Jaws.” (We call our vacuum that too, thanks to Mr. Mom. Wow, I am totally obsessed with that movie.)

I bought a dirt devil cordless sweeper and it has no power and doesn’t really pick up cheerios and that kind of thing. Which is what I really need.

Would your sweeper work on a very low pile/tight berber? Or is it more for hardwood floors? Does it just push things ahead of it into the edges where it can’t retrieve them? (That’s what our dirt devil does.) I should have known better than to buy a product with the word “devil” in it. Hee hee. But it was red and cute.

I have the coupon and I’m probably going to march down to BBB and get one!

  11. Becky Says:

Do they work on carpet well? Really. I am in the market. Sick of the big guy (the vacuum, not the husband) and looking for a more efficient means.

    And … I have a 20% coupon :)

  12. Kim Says:

My mom was just showing me her Shark on the weekend–getting one for myself is on my to-do list!

  13. ellen b Says:

Looks like a fun toy! Enjoy…

  14. WhatWorksForMom Says:

very cool. just what i need and don’t have room for!

  15. Sunshine Says:

WOW – I want one of those – how cool is that? Esp since the nine month old has taken to chewing on the vacuum cord – WHILE it is plugged in :( Thanks for sharing this – Sunshine

  16. Ann G Says:

I’m intrigued. How much??? I’m too much of a tight wad to spend much.

  17. deanna Says:

I have one – but it’s called a Swivel Sweeper – and is the most awesome invention EVER! I was actually thinking that it would be a good shower gift for new moms. Sure, now they have no idea how crunchy a floor can be. But in about a year, as soon as Cheerios enter the picture, they would be calling me to say thank you!

  18. Kathy in WA Says:

This looks great! Thanks for sharing. I usually make my children sweep the kitchen floor but it’s never done often enough. I have a few 20% off coupons as well. This might be a worthy splurge. :)

  19. Mom of a Munchkin Says:

I’ve always wondered if these were really worth it…thanks for the tip!

  20. Penny G Says:

How funny – I just bought one this weekend, except I bought mine at Linen’s & Things with the 20% off coupon. I was skeptical about how well it would work, but gave it a test run when I got home & was surprised how much junk it picked up. It’s definitely a keeper!

  21. Melody Says:

Okay, I have a swiffer vac, but I still have to sweep the “big” stuff first. Will this thing actually pick up say a Honeycomb cereal? Cause, cheerios aren’t really a true test you know.

Did I mention that I dispise sweeping? Brooms are NASTY and so not think for one second that I am going to reach down and clean it off, no ma’am. I’ll just buy another…

  22. The Estrogen Files Says:

Love me some of that non-crunchy floors. May have to jaunt on over to BBB and check it out.

Your post reminds me of the Mr Mom movie. Intentional, I’m sure.

  23. Amy Says:

Now this sounds like something even a crippled old woman like me could use! I wonder if it will pick up those old Milk Duds from eons ago..lol!

Tagged you for the middle name meme when you have spare time…yea, right!

  24. pippi Says:

I have one too, and I ABSOLUTELY agree with your assessment. This thing is the best!!

  25. Lori - Queen of Dirty Laundry Says:

I want a cordless sweeper so very badly! I think I’ll put this guy on my Christmas wish list. It’s never to early, right?

  26. Lori - Queen of Dirty Laundry Says:

That should have said “too early.” As a spelling snob and a self-diagnosed OCD sufferer, I couldn’t let that go.

    Sigh.

  27. SAHMmy Says Says:

I use the Shark too! It’s also great for entertaining preschoolers when you have to break out “Jaws!” They love to help! It’s also easy on baby sister’s fingers, should she be run over by the “helper.”

  28. MamaBearJune Says:

I have the Swivel Sweeper and LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! I was thinking about getting it and then Reader’s Digest had a review on different infomercial stuff and gave the SS rave reviews. You get two for the price of one, so it was a pretty good deal. I have one upstairs and one downstairs. Picks up pretty much everything! We have 3 people with long hair, so I have to clean the brushes frequently.

  29. Jana Says:

I think this looks wonderful, but my husband doesn’t believe it works because he saw it on late-night infomercials. HELP!!!

  30. Joy of course Says:

Oh! I just bought a swivel sweeper yesterday! I almost got the Shark and the salesman talked me into the other for half the price. I think I would prefer something with a bit more suction, but overall it’s pretty cool. I love that you di a post on this.

  31. Jill Says:

If I could, I would come kiss you right now (not in an inappropriate way, but an I am so happy you have solved my Cheerio dilemma way) My youngest is a massive food thrower and I am dying a slow death with this broom and dustpan set up. You would truly be my hero if you could WFMW about how to make her stop throwing everything, but this will do in the meantime. I am off to BB&B with my coupon!!!

  32. Alexis Says:

I just bought a Shark this week too. It was a hand held model, but the best vac I have ever bought hands down.

    Enjoy your new toy!

  33. Kiy Says:

Ok, now *I* need one too! And where does one find this oh-so-wonderful coupon? Besides, any reason to wander BB&B is a good thing! Love your stories, the whole Polly Pocket thing scares me. ;)

P.S. Told DH I needed this, and blamed it on you. Hope you don’t mind. (whistles innocently…)

  34. CeCe Lane Says:

I NEED one of those….desperately. Hey did you know, you can google “coupon codes” and find them online if you don’t happen to have the code in your hot little hand?

    Yup.

    Off to google….

  35. Sisterlisa Says:

Thanks for sharing this. My whole house is tile, I *SO* need one of these. Where do I get the coupon from?

  36. Shelia Says:

The Shark has been an welcomed addition to this cheerio throwing family for a little while. And you know what? Our “jaws” makes at least one person go running and screaming in terror. NOT so with the Shark. No siree bob! A veritible fight breaks out over who can use it… the 5 year old, or our almost 4 year old!

    Long live The Shark!

  37. Faerylandmom Says:

    DUDE! Sweeeeet.

  38. Ann Kroeker Says:

    Ohboyohboyohboyohboy!

This could revolutionize my daily existence.

And I think I have one of those coupons–excuse me, while I dig in the trash FiddleDeeDee-style.

  39. Melanie Says:

Well you are about the fifth person I have heard rave over this product! I guess I will need to give it a try. We go shopping for new house stuff in the next 2 weeks so I will have to sneak it onto the list!

  40. raquel Says:

I cant wait to get one these! thank you! i am going to put it in the trailer we are getting ready to buy

  41. Judy Says:

I am so getting two of these – I just signed up for BB&B mailing list for the coupons. I see some serious pawning off labor on my offspring in my near future. Adding Shark to the chore chart!

  42. :: Suzanne :: Says:

NOOOOOOooooooo. Avaunt you evil temptress. I have 8 vacuums (1 Oreck upright, 1 Oreck canister, 1 Oreck hand-held, 2 iRobots, 1 dirt devil, 1 laundry-room shop-vac, 1 car vac) and now I need a Shark. I think I may need a vacuuholics anonymous meeting.
